DESCRIPTION

This report explores the experiences of black academics at various higher education institutions as to why they left particular institution and / or why they left the academic profession. The main contributing factors identified are: institutional racism, racism couched as liberalism, racism in evaluation, racism as black essentialism, poor management and factors that have to do with responding to the new political environment. The final section discusses some proposed strategies for retaining black professionals.
